Citizen Eco-Drive Aviator Power Reserve AW1360-12H Men’s Watch

Well, Mark’s Citizen Eco-Drive Aviator Power Reserve AW1360-12H Men’s Watch, gave off the old-world vibes, like the old watches worn by pilots in the 50s and 60s era.

Do pilots actually wear pilot watches? That’s a question that popped in my mind, looking at the sheer number of aviator watch models out there hailing from different brands. I have seen pilot watches on many a wrist although a majority of those wearers have never set foot in an airplane cockpit. On the contrary, many an airline pilot flaunt the high-end, fancy fashion watches or none at all depending on their preference, but rarely do you see pilots wearing pilot watches.

My instructor at the Flying Club, Mark is a deviation from this rule. I’ve never seen him without a watch and I know he wears a pilot watch – I also know for a fact, he just replaced his old aviator watch with the Citizen Eco-Drive Aviator Power Reserve AW1360-12H Men’s Watch.

Pilot watches are different from other watches in that they are mostly large, open-dialled watches with highly legible contrasting white hands on a dark dial. They feature Arabic numerals and indices making the watch extremely legible during the day or night. The bezel of aviator watches helps with various computations that pilots need to make during the flight. However, in today’s technically advanced world the computer does all these calculations and the pilot watch has remained that – a watch to tell the time.

Well, Mark’s Citizen Eco-Drive Aviator Power Reserve AW1360-12H Men’s Watch, gave off the old-world vibes, like the old watches worn by pilots in the 50s and 60s era. With Citizen’s Eco Drive technology powering this quartz watch, there’s no hassle of replacing the battery every now and then. The watch is 45mm in diameter, just the right size for most wrists. The brushed stainless-steel case and back with a good quality brown leather strap and white stitching makes it an elegant timepiece in itself.

In keeping with its ‘aviator’ status, the large, dark grey dial of the Citizen AW1360-12H makes an interesting colour scheme with the light brown belt and white stitching. It also has a unique date system where you can see today’s, yesterday’s and tomorrow’s date. Other features include a power reserve indicator, insufficient charge warning as well as an overcharge prevention function

This is a large watch with an open and clear dial, just as a pilot watch should be. The hands are luminescent in the dark for easy readability in poor light conditions. Mark says he finds it to be a quite useful tool both inside and outside the cockpit and that it sits comfortably on his wrist.

The Citizen Eco-Drive Aviator Power Reserve AW1360-12H Men’s Watch is a great pilot-styled watch to have even if you’re not into flying…I think it’s a great everyday watch from the respected Citizen brand known for making tough, durable and affordable watches.
