In the horological world for more than 150 years ,building up desire for every horologist to hold it and feel it , shoots up the ecstasy level when its 1884,Pallweber edition, was recreated when the digital display was labeled in English with hours and minutes, as a tribute to American IWC founder F.A Jones.
Launched to an honor of Pallweber, IWC Schaffhausen, created the lacquered dial, which is obvious in all its models. In its jubilee, collection the ode to Pallweber was also given by creating the red gold dial case with a blue inside and leather bands. The first pocket watch that was created as a mark of initiation of the IWC Schaffhausen, was recreated again after 150 years, with digital hour minutes display. However, the original was made by Josef Pallweber , with large numbers and rotating mechanical movements.
Apart from this, in the Jubilee collection also comes the Portugeiser, the collection that is always classic, sophisticated and dressy. The 150th anniversary is marked with eight new models. With a platinum case, rhodium plated hands 96 hours power reserve, and 94805 calibre. The Portugeiser, model also comes with an annual calendar design with a large window showing the month, day and the date.
The third of its collection comes the Portofino, the laid back Italian design, yet classy and elegant, where new seven models were added, with printed dials with lacquers in colors white and blue. Limited edition with only 350 watches, a moon phase at 3o’ clock position, with 59000 hand wound caliber that needs adjustment in every 122 years, also has a 8 day power reserve.
Next comes the IWC Big Pilot’s Big Date Edition, at its mark of 150th anniversary, for the first time this pilot watch was introduced with a date display featuring large numbers. Limited edition this too, with only 150 pieces, has a stainless steel case blue hands and lacquered white dial. Hand wound 59235 caliber, having an 8 day power reserve. IWC does a good job of taking one of its in-house movements and putting it in different movements for a different look and function. You can find their popular automatic movement with a 7 day power reserve in the Portuguese, Ingenieur, and Pilot watches as an example. Most long power reserve watches are manually wound, so it is cool that this one is an automatic. IWC has some great movement finishing, as well as a cool way of engraving their automatic rotors. My favorite newer movement is the one in the bottom image. This IWC Da Vinci model is fitted with an automatic perpetual calendar chronograph movement that has two digital jumping windows for the date and month.
